Just like in America!

O que aconteceria em Portugal se pudessemos, por um momento, ser como os actuais americanos? Um País que produz tão pouco, cuja indústria está de pantanas há décadas, como seria se as políticas culturais fossem outras? Na realidade temos pouco mais do que Turismo e Cultura, como fontes de riqueza. Mas os nossos dirigentes parecem não se aperceber desse facto.

Agora veja-se a notícia de hoje, no New York Times:
The first lady, Michelle Obama, visited New York City on Monday to promote the arts, celebrating opening night at the American Ballet Theater and the reopening of part of the American Wing of the Metropolitan Musuem of Art.
Mrs. Obama described the nation’s creative spirit as critical to its ideals and its identity, and said the arts needed to be nurtured even during difficult economic times. She noted that her husband had included $50 million in his economic stimulus package for the national Endowment for the Arts. “The arts are not just a nice thing to have,” she said, adding that the arts “define who we are as a people.”

Reparem: as Artes devem ser acarinhadas mesmo em tempo de crise. Eu diria, "principalmente em tempo de crise". E as Artes definem-nos, enquanto povo. BEM DITO!
